The gums are the foundation for good strong teeth. With a poor foundation, teeth can be lost. Some patients have a more severe form of gum disease known as periodontitis. Periodontitis is usually painless but some signs of periodontitis include:
If you have these problems then a deep clean under the gums (gum treatment) is required. Over time lots of plaque and bacteria may have built up under the gums causing constant infection of the gums. Research has also shown a link between constant gum infection and heart disease. There need to be cleaned out to control the progress of periodontitis. With early diagnosis and treatment teeth can even "firm up" and prevent further tooth loss.
